LWCF Success in New Hampshire

The Land and Water Conservation Fund has helped protect some of New Hampshire's most treasured places.  New Hampshire has received approximately $108 million over the past four decades, protecting places such as the White Mountains National Forest and the Silvio Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.

Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge

County leaders concerned about the future economic stability of their rural community worked with federal, state and private dollars to identify and protect key recreation and watershed lands around Lake Umbagog, ensuring permanent protection of high-value trout ponds and streams.

Economic Benefits

Active outdoor recreation is an important part of the New Hampshire economy. Each year, 258,000 sportspersons and 710,000 wildlife watchers combine to spend $560 million on wildlife-associated recreation in New Hampshire. The Outdoor Industry Association has found that active outdoor recreation supports 53,000 jobs across New Hampshire, generates $261 million in annual state tax revenue and produces nearly $4 billion annually in retail sales across New Hampshire (accounting for 7.8 percent of gross state product.)
